“Leading up to the draft has been very exciting,” Farabee said. “Just being able to be considered by teams is really cool. As far as preparation on the ice, I just think right now staying in shape and working on my game is important leading into the draft.”

Farabee is considered one of the best skaters in the draft and that skill has made him a tremendous offensive threat. He’s considered fearless and never stops working, traits that make him a tough player to deal with, and on the defensive end, he is just as effective.

“I think my strengths on the ice are my vision and hockey IQ and my playmaking ability,” Farabee said. “I think being able to create offense and understand the game is something that will help me make it in pro hockey.”

Farabee has shown he can rise to the occasion in big moments. In two seasons in the National Team Development Program, he has proven he has what it takes to play at a high level, particularly in the U18 World Championships when he scored twice in the gold medal game to lead his team to a 4-2 victory over Finland. 

He ended up with 27 goals and 37 assists in 54 games this past season and racked up 25 goals and 24 assists during the 2016-17 campaign with the NTDP.

“My experience with the NTDP was awesome,” Farabee said. “To be able to play for your country and be teammates with the best players in the world is something that was really cool.”

The native of New York noted he gained a great deal from the experience.

“Something the NTDP helped me with was just perfecting my game and becoming as complete of a player as I could,” Farabee added. “My time with the NTDP was everything and if I could do the whole thing over again I would.”

Farabee also played for the 16U Selects Academy of the USPHL. He led his team to a championship during the 2015-16 season and was the league’s player of the year, scoring 19 goals and dishing out 30 assists.

“Selects Academy was a really cool experience. Being able to move away to play hockey was something that really helped me as a player,” Farabee said. “I think just learning how to live away from home while balancing hockey and school was something that I really treasure about that experience.”

Committed to play at Boston University, he’s looking forward to seeing what he can do at that level, knowing it will further prepare him for a future in pro hockey.

“I’m super excited about going to college and playing for Boston,” Farabee said. “I think just being able to play for a university and get the college experience is something I’m excited about.”

Not only that, but it will give him a chance to make strides in areas he feels he needs to improve on as a player.

“To this point, I think just being able to score goals in the dirty areas and play in front of the net is something I’ve really worked on and tried to incorporate into my game as much as I could,” Farabee said.

The 6-foot, 169-pound left winger turned 18 in February and is looking forward to what the future holds for him in the sport he loves. He’s determined to continue working hard to make his pro hockey dream come true.

“I think just getting better every day and getting bigger and stronger will help me move on with my game,” Farabee said. “As far as goals, I would just like to eventually get to the pros and also stay [in the pros] once I get there. That is a goal of mine.”
