FOXBORO, MA -- The South Shore Kings could hear the name of one of their own called during the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Kings goalie Tyriq Outen, a 2000-born native of Tampa, Fla., played in 18 NCDC games this past season, posting a 3.11 goals against average and an .897 save percentage. He was ranked 19th overall among North American Goalies for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, which will take place in Dallas, Texas, over the June 22-23 weekend.

“I’m excited for him,” said Kings general manager/head coach John Gurskis. “Tyriq deserves it, he’s worked extremely hard. He came in as a U16 kid last year, and within a few weeks into this season, he was up to the National Collegiate Development Conference. His future is bright.”

Gurskis said that due to growing up and playing his early years in Tampa, that Outen “flew under the radar” before joining the Kings in 2016.

“He has only been in New England for three years now. He’s still uncommitted, but it’ll all come together for him. His athletic ability and size are his greatest strengths,” said Gurskis. “Everyone wants a big goalie. He’s 6-3, and he’s projected to grow to 6-5 or 6-6. He just competes hard, and he has all the intangibles you look for in a goaltender.”

Kings alumni are no strangers to the NHL, as the team currently counts Jimmy Vesey (New York Rangers), Charlie Coyle (Minnesota Wild), Ryan Donato (Boston Bruins) and Chris Wagner (N.Y. Islanders) among some of their best success stories.

Commitment bonanza: The Kings enjoyed a flurry of college commitments through April, with brothers Will Steele and Avery Steele committing together to Skidmore College. Michael Stinil committed to NCAA Division 1 American International College.

Zach Tyson committed to Hobart College, Connor Breen is moving on to Middlebury, Kevin Kaufman will play at Anna Maria College and Jonathan Yanovsky committed to Becker.

Camp and Showcase: The Kings essentially finished April with a three-day tryout camp from April 27-29. They will also field two teams in the USPHL Spring Showcase from May 11-13.

“That’s basically your last opportunity [to get in front of NCDC coaches] before the NCDC Draft on May 16,” added Gurskis.
