WSHL Team Set for the Postseason

LAKEWOOD, CA -- Long Beach is gearing up for a push to the Western States Hockey League regular season finish line.

Atop the WSHL Western Division through 44 games and owners of a 29-11-4 record during that stretch, the Bombers are eager to finish strong and carry that momentum into the playoffs.

“We’re at the point where it’s time to turn a new page and get prepared for the playoffs,” said head coach Chris White.

The season has been mostly a successful one for the Bombers up to this point, though they had lost three in a row heading into the final weekend of February.

“We’ve been up and down at times, but we have a little bit of a younger team,” White said. “The parity in our division is much better, which is nice, and we are playing competitive games every weekend.”

Long Beach has added some veteran talent for the stretch run and is hoping the experience will pay off in the postseason.

“We’ve added some new guys to our lineup and have liked what we’ve seen,” White said. “It’s exciting. We have a lot of talent and we are focusing on some of the mistakes we’ve been making recently. Overall, I like the team that we have.”

Miroslav Rohlik and Tomas Urbanec led the way in goals scored with 36 and 35, respectively. The goaltending has been phenomenal behind the play of Domenic Bosetti and Matthew Ayres. The two combined to play in 67 games through Feb. 22 and made more than 1,000 saves to that point. Bosetti had 21 wins and 899 saves on the year to lead the way.

“I really like where our goaltending is at right now,” White said. “Those guys have playoff experience and I think as a whole, we have the talent we need to make a run and contend for a championship. We just have to go out and play the right way every night and keep increasing our compete level.”
