Gary Gill is in his first season with the Oklahoma City Jr. Blazers and he loves the way things are going with the team that he also owns.

OKLAHOMA, OK -- His Blazers are 32-5-1 through the first 38 games of the season and in second place in the Mid-Western Division of the Western States Hockey League.

“I feel good about how our team is doing, but we also have room to grow, and any time you have room to grow, you never stop learning,” Gill said.

The Blazers won their last six games heading into the first weekend of February and had the top three scoring threats in the Mid-Western Division in Ivan Bondarenko, Joshua Chamberlain and Griffin Wiencek.

Bondarenko led the way with 46 goals to go along with his 47 assists. Chamberlain tallied 32 goals and 48 assists and Wiencek came up with 26 goals and 49 assists.

Between the pipes, Bobby Cloutier played in 31 games and won 22 times. He owned a 2.35 goals against average as January came to a close.

Gill said one of the keys to the team’s success in his first season at the helm is the teamwork his team displays night in and night out.

“We play very well as a team,” Gill said. “We work very hard not to be individuals. I’m happy with the way the guys work together.”

As the season heads into the stretch run, Gill said that there isn’t one particular area his team needs to make improvements in.

“At the end of the day, we can get better at everything,” Gill said. “We’re excited about the direction we are going in, and we want to continue to be as good as we can be and compete for a championship. We are in a great position right now and feel like we can make a run.”
