Dallas plays in one of the toughest divisions in the WSHL. Competing in the same Mid-Western Division as reigning league champion El Paso, every game matters a little more.

The Snipers, though, despite some ups and downs, have built up a little momentum heading into the year, winning their last four games.

“As we got closer to the (WSHL) Showcase, we did a good job of preparing for it and our team played really well,” head coach Aaron Davis said. “We picked up some big wins that are going to help us down the road, especially with the way our division is.”

Dallas has been particularly pleased with the way his team has played defensively. Three different goalies have seen time, including Alexander Aleshkin, who has won 13 games and has made nearly 900 saves (877) through 38 games.

Kyle Plantz and Danny Jamison have combined for 10 wins. Plantz has 676 saves.

“Our defense has been pretty good. The guys are playing well together,” Davis said. “We’ve gotten really good goaltending. Those guys have made some big saves in tight games.”

But those close games have proven beneficial to the Snipers, who have played in 11 overtime games. Dallas is 5-6 in overtime action.

“We’ve played in a lot of close games this year, and that has put our players in pressure situations,” Davis said. “Being in those types of games is something that is going to help us late in the season and into the playoffs. They feel comfortable in those games.”

Davis is hoping to see continued improvement in the second half of the year on both ends of the ice.

One thing he doesn’t have to worry about is the effort his team puts forth night in and night out.

“Oh yeah, those guys always play hard,” Davis said. “We have quite a few players who have been with us a year or two and they know what to expect of me and what to expect in the league. It’s nice to have those guys to lean on. It makes life easier.”
