Mustangs Remain Perfect

Ogden is still perfect. The Mustangs are unbeaten in their first 14 games and head coach Jake Laime is happy about the fact that his team is off to an impressive start to its season.

“It’s still early, but we are happy for sure with being unbeaten,” Laime said. “We’ve shown a lot of promise but on the defensive side, we still have some holes to fill.”

Laime pointed out that strengthening the defensive corps and solidifying the goaltending position are the focal points of improvement from a defensive standpoint.

Yet, through 14 games, the Mustangs have given up just 21 goals. Titan Anderson and Mason Palmer each have five wins and Matthew Genter has four wins.

Offensively, the Mustangs have put up 113 goals, with six players scoring 10 or more. Gleb Krivoshapkin leads the way with 16 to go along with his 12 assists.

Zach Pires has come through with 14 goals and 12 assists. Johan Zollner has tallied seven goals and 18 assists. Shane Gilbert leads the Mustangs in assists with 18 on the year.

“We’ve been pretty cohesive on offense,” Laime said. “We move the puck well and are transition game is really quick. I’ve been impressed with our play on the offensive side.”

Ogden is looking to continue moving in the right direction and keep momentum on its side. Though the Mustangs have had a great deal of success early on in terms of winning games, Laime said the focus isn’t just on what the scoreboard says at the end of the day.

“We don’t put a ton of emphasis on the score,” Laime said. “Winning the right way is important and we want to make sure we are doing that from a systematic approach. The score is not the deciding factor on how good we are. It’s about we play during the game, and right now our overall play has been pretty good. But there is always room for improvement.”
