ATTLEBORO, MA -- Original Northeast Generals member Alex Cohen has committed to play at Trinity College this fall. He joined the Generals after being selected in the eighth round of Northeast’s first-ever NAHL draft in 2016. He has been a mainstay in the Generals’ line-up ever since.

Over three years with Northeast, Cohen steadily improved his production while becoming an increasingly important player in the lineup. He went from eight points in his first season to 31 in his third, and final, season. Cohen was named an assistant caption for the 2018-19 season and represented the Generals in the NAHL Top Prospects Showcase. He is the all-time leader in games played, tied for the lead in shorthanded goals, sixth in scoring, and fourth in goals in Northeast Generals history.

Alex played a complete 200 foot game every night and was a top penalty killer, led the team in faceoff percentage (64% career) and was incredibly hard to play against often matching up against opposing teams top lines.

Generals GM Bryan Erikson said “I can’t say enough great things about Alex. Just an honest 200 foot hockey player. Not a lot of holes in his game. He can skate, he can shoot and he can find the open man. Came to the rink everyday ready to work and it showed in how much he improved over the past 3 seasons. His ability to play in all situations will be hard to replace next year. He put himself in a great recruiting spot and we are very proud of his choosing Trinity where he will not only play great hockey but get a first class education as well. He’s a special kid that I will miss.”

Added Head Coach Joe Lovell “Alex was awesome to Coach. Worked his tail off every day, great kid in the locker room and just an outstanding teammate. Was that player that we trusted in all situations from key faceoffs to penalty kills to shutting down other teams top scorers. And what was amazing is he was still getting better at the end of the year. Trinity is getting a great person and player. Excited to follow Alex’s career.”

Trinity plays in the prestigious NESCAC conference and finished the 2018-19 season 19-4-5 and ranked 10th in the nation.
